Walter Mazzarri has indeed done a brilliant job at Vicarage Road since taking charge of the Hornets this summer and that is well-reflected in the league table. After ten games, Watford are placed 7th in the table, one place ahead of giants Manchester United.
Unbeaten in their last four games, Watford are in a fine form right now but they have a real test on their hands this Sunday when they travel to Anfield to face high-flying Liverpool. The Reds have been scoring for fun this season and are third in the table but are level on points with the top two i.e. Manchester City and Arsenal.
Watford need more consistency in their game despite their good run. They are an unpredictable side who, on their day, can take down the strongest of sides while they can lose to lowly-placed on their off-day.
On paper, Liverpool will be major favourites for the game but Jürgen Klopp cannot afford to take the Hornets lightly. Watford defeated Klopp’s Liverpool 3-0 last season in the first of their two meetings but lost the second game 2-0.
Here is the predicted Watford lineup against Liverpool.
Defence
Experienced Brazilian keeper Heurelho Gomes will start under the bar for the Hornets. With Craig Cathcart out injured, Watford are likely to start with an unchanged back-three of Prodl, Britos and Kaboul.
Watford have done decently in defence this season conceding just 13 goals in 10 games that include games against Southampton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. However, stopping the Liverpool attack will be a whole new challenge for the back-three.
The way Liverpool tear apart their opponents’ defence is obviously a joy to watch for the fans considering their pace and movement up front.
Midfield
Etienne Capoue is an undisputed starter in the middle of the park. The Frenchman’s form in front of the goal has dried up after a sensational start to the season but he still remains a vital player for Watford in the midfield with his all-round ability and physical presence. The Frenchman will start in the middle of the park alongside Valon Behrami.
Roberto Pereyra will start in front of the two midfielders in an advanced role. Juan Camilo Zuniga is likely to replace Nordin Amrabat at right wing-back due to his better defensive qualities which will be needed against Liverpool. Jose Holebas will start at left wing-back.
Attack
Odion Ighalo has been in dismal form this season but he was the standout player for Watford in their 3-0 win against the Reds last season. The Nigerian should keep his place up front against Liverpool alongside skipper Troy Deeney.
