Manchester United have not had the best of starts to life under Jose Mourinho but it is somehow understandable. Transforming a club overnight to winners from barely top half contenders is not an easy task. Mourinho needs a massive squad rebuilding in order to fulfil the monumental expectations of the fans and therefore, we expect the Red Devils to be quite active in the next few transfer windows.
Express Sport claims that Mourinho is targeting a reunion with his former favourite Willian at Old Trafford in January. Chelsea have experienced their best form in their last six games. Since their 3-0 loss to Arsenal, the Blues have turned around a corner having won six games on the bounce without conceding a single goal. Conte’s boys are top of the table now and unfortunately, William finds himself out of the starting XI right now.
This season has not gone well for Willian so far. When the season started, he was an undisputed choice in the starting XI and was doing a decent job. But, with his mother’s death last month, he had to travel back to Brazil and Pedro has since impressed in his position. With Chelsea doing so well without him, Conte is quite expectedly unwilling to alter the winning formula.
The 28-year-old is such a player is who is bound to attract interest if he is not getting regular playing time. In the football ideology Mourinho believes in, Willian is his dream attacking midfielder. There are not many hard-working attacking midfielders out there and on top of that, the Brazilian is a versatile player who can play equally well as a number ten and on the flanks.
Willian is fast, tricky and technically gifted, everything you expect from a Brazilian. He likes to take on defenders and outwit them with pace and trickery. Blessed with an exceptional close control on the ball, the 28-year-old is an explosive attacker.
Mourinho wants even his attacking players to track back to help out the defenders and Willian’s high stamina and work rate are perfect for that. On top of that, the Brazilian is an excellent direct free-kick taker.
Willian has a brilliant working relationship with Mourinho. He was the one who brought the 28-year-old to England. Willian still has plenty of football left in him even though he is 28 now. The flamboyant attacker can be a key part of Mourinho’s rebuilding of the squad at Old Trafford.
