David De Gea reportedly has a £51.7m release clause in his current contract. The keeper signed a new four-year contract last year with an option to extend it for a further year. Manchester United almost lost their star keeper to Real Madrid but thanks to a fax machine the Spanish giants refrained from signing him.
The Spanish keeper has been one of the notable names who has been consistent for the past couple of seasons. Alex Ferguson brought the Spanish custodian from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for €25million with add-ons.
The 26-year-old was a bit shaky in his starting days but since then improved a lot and right now he is regarded as one of the best keepers in the world. United have the knack of encouraging good goalkeeping talents with the likes of Edwin Van der Sar, Fabien Barthez and Peter Schmeichel.
However, Real are contemplating a move given United’s position in the ongoing season. The Red Devils are enduring a difficult season and will try to restore their glory when they will take on Arsenal in the next match. Although Madrid already have Keylor Navas who has been pretty solid in goal, they will still give a shot to entice the Spanish International.
