Wayne Rooney has apologised after he was seen in a drunken state following England’s 3-0 win over Scotland. The 31-year-old was pictured at a wedding party in their hotel.
Rooney who was not picked by Gareth Southgate in the last match against Spain as he was injured, stayed out that day till 5am. The Sun later published an image where the Manchester United forward appeared as drunk.
Rooney later released a statement apologising to FA and The Three Lions coach, “Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published.
“Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.
“Earlier today Wayne spoke privately to both Gareth Southgate and [FA technical director] Dan Ashworth to unreservedly apologise.
“He would like to further extend that apology to any young fans who have seen these pictures.”
It has been reported that FA will not take any disciplinary action against the player and will review their policy on what to do in free time during International matches.
