Does Liverpool have what it takes to go all the way and win the title? With the good run of form for the Reds this campaign, title talks were inevitable. Jurgen Klopp’s boys had a disappointing outing against Southampton away from home on Saturday after the international break as they could not find their way past the resolute defence of the Saints.
Chelsea have overtaken the Reds in the Premier League table and Manchester City also have drawn level on points with the 5 time Champions League winners.

If Liverpool hopes to win the title this season, they should ideally bolster their squad to some extent in January. Sadio Mane could be missing for a month after the turn of the year due to his commitments with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations and the Reds are going to miss his pace and directness. However, reports claim that Jurgen Klopp has an alternative formula in his mind.
The Liverpool Echo claims that Liverpool are plotting a January move for Spartak Moscow wide man Quincy Promes. The 24-year-old boasts an impressive scoring record of 36 goals in 75 appearances for Spartak since joining them from Twente in 2014. The deadly winger is valued at £25m by the Russian giants as per the same report and keeping the condition of the market in mind, that is quite a decent price for a player of the Dutchman’s capabilities.
In many ways, Quincy Promes is similar to Liverpool star Sadio Mane. A similar physical stature, an excellent sync of pace and power- the Dutchman seems like a photocopy of the Senegalese forward. Promes is a versatile attacker and can slot into either of the three attacking positions. The trio of Mane, Firmino and Coutinho are working wonders at Anfield this season but Liverpool should try to bring more competition for places up front in order to get the best out of the team.

Playing as a right winger, Promes is often able to surprise his opposition by either cutting inside and shooting or by taking his man on and crossing from out wide. It’s hard to predict what the 24-year-old has in his mind and that makes him more ideal for Liverpool. Nowadays most wide players are inside forwards but Promes can be deployed either as a winger or as an inside forward.
There is only one flaw in Promes’ game i.e. his lack of defensive discipline. Klopp wants his players to press very hard and you can see the likes of Firmino, Coutinho and Mane coming deep to help out the defence. That is why a gifted forward like Daniel Sturridge is not getting much playing time. However, that can be worked on. Liverpool will get a gifted player in Promes if they can bring the Dutch forward at Anfield.
