Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Marseille’s Maxime Lopez. The promising midfielder has so far featured in five games in the ongoing season for the French side.
Liverpool have been tracking the teenager since he was 16. The player has been dubbed as the ‘next Samir Nasri’ by a section of the French media. Marseille are not so famous for their academy barring Samir Nasri who later played for some big clubs including Arsenal. The Gunners have been also monitoring the player but Liverpool is currently leading the race to land the midfielder.
Lopez has the perfect attributes to match Klopp’s tactics as his intelligent passing and fluid movement would be a boon for the Reds. The 18-year old can also play on either wing and in the number 10 position. According to reports, Liverpool had sent scouts on several occasions to watch the teenager.
With Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a number of clubs the 18-year old could be a long-term replacement for the Brazilian if he departs in the future.
