The work Antonio Conte has done in such a short time since he took over a Chelsea side who were low on confidence after their shambolic last season is absolutely remarkable. The Blues are bubbling with confidence right now every time they step on the pitch and are just one point behind league Liverpool in the Premier League. From the likes of Hazard, Costa and Kanté to the likes Pedro and Moses, all have performed so well in Conte’s 3-4-3 system so well that the blues now look like serious title contenders.
However, Chelsea do lack a solid squad depth which is also a very necessary thing in order to win big things. They might do well this season with such a lean squad due to the fact that they are not in Europe but they should already start building their squad in order to form an empire in English football in coming years.
ESPN claims that Chelsea are still hot on the tail of Croatian midfield dynamo Marcelo Brozovic after missing on him in the summer. ESPN claims that the London club had reportedly bid £22m for his services and Inter were happy to do a deal but the player, at the time, didn’t want to leave. However, things have rapidly changed at San Siro in the last few months.
Frank de Boer has been sacked and with Inter struggling, we could very well see the Croatian wizard moving out in January and Chelsea seem the most likely destination for him.
Croatia have produced some exceptional players, especially midfielders in the recent past. Real Madrid star Luka Modric and Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic are the biggest names Croatia produced in the last decade.
Well, if you expect the same kind of elegance from Brozovic like Rakitic and Modric, you will be utterly disappointed but he is more of a working class hero, a player who will give his all for the team.
Brozovic is more of a complete midfielder who has every ability to shine under the stewardship of Conte. The Croatian’s work rate, big physical presence, late runs into the box- all are ideal for Conte’s 3-4-3 system. If a defensive midfielder like Matic is relishing the central midfield role under Conte and has 5 assists to his name this season, imagine what Brozovic could do in that role.
Still only 23, Brozovic has his best days well ahead of him. With every ingredient to shine under Conte, he could very well prove to be the catalyst in Chelsea’s run if he signs in January. The Croatian is very similar to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard in many ways and could replicate a similar success story at Stamford Bridge.
