Antonio Conte is very impressed with Diego Costa’s involvement to the game. The Spaniard is currently topping the Premier League goal scoring chart with nine goals.
Since Chelsea have switched to a 3-4-3 formation, there has been a showering of goals in their last couple of matches. The Blues have now scored 16 goals in their last five fixtures including a 5-0 drubbing of Everton just before the international break. The Spaniard was doubtful after a groin injury at the Spain cap but has travelled with the team to Middlesbrough.
Conte has heaped praises on his front man,”Diego is a very good player.
“It’s important for me, for his teammates, to see that in every game, Diego works a lot with the ball and without the ball. He’s an example for all. And I want to continue this way.
“If he continues to score, I’ll be very happy. But I’ll be happier to see this commitment, this work-rate during training and in games, to work with the team with and without the ball. If all the players are able to think in this way, it’s fantastic and we’ll be a good team, a very tough team to play.”
Conte also hailed the striker’s temperament in recent matches. Costa has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons throughout his career. He has already got four yellow cards and if he gets another card then that will lead him to an automatic one-match suspension.
Conte added, “Diego is showing he can control himself.
“It’s fantastic, I think, that Diego is improving a lot in a lot of aspects. For me now, Diego is one of the best strikers in the world. He must continue that, working in this way, with his commitment and work-rate.”
