According to latest reports, Chelsea have reignited their interest in Inter Milan defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia and are likely to plot a move for the player this January. After Inter Milan’s disastrous run of events this season, many big names are linked to move out and the Frenchman is one of them.
The Nerazzurri had a whopping 31 million pound deal finalised for the Frenchman in summer 2015, but the talented midfielder has been frustrated being benched on most occasions this season and is apparently willing to move out of the club.
Most of Inter’s current problems had emerged for the former boss Frank de Boer, whom Kondogbia had criticised publicly, and the introduction of new boss Stefano Pioli might resolve the issue. While we wait for Kondogbia to make a decision on his next destination this January, many news outlets are reporting that Chelsea are heavily monitoring the midfield machine.
Kondogbia has made only 4 appearances this season and Chelsea could be a suitable destination for him to flourish. At 188 cm, Kondogbia could be the perfect anchorman for the Blues who could intercept aerial threats and win the physical battles in the heart of the field and provide passes up front.
Under Conte, the 23-year old will flourish rightly and with players like Eden Hazard, Pedro, and Willian in front of him, he can turn out to be one of the big names in Premier League. Kondogbia’s dribbling abilities and the prowess to find the perfect pass from the deep midfield are the exact abilities Chelsea are in need for at the moment. In many ways, he is pretty similar to Pogba who recently made a big-money move to Manchester United.
Chelsea have the duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kanté in the middle to do the pivotal job but neither of them seems to have the perfect blend of pace, physicality and technique to turn out to be a great holding midfielder. Kondogbia could easily break into the first team.
Antonio Conte had a massive job on his hands when he was appointed the manager of Chelsea after their troublesome last season and early signs suggest that the Italian has not only passed the test but did it with perfection.
Chelsea are now placed second in the table after 11 game weeks sitting one point behind league leaders Liverpool and if they can keep up such an amazing form, they can realistically mount a title challenge. With a player like Kondogbia, Chelsea could really extend their winning form in the league into the second half of the season when the matches will increase and stamina will be tested.
