According to Daily Mail, current English Premier League leaders Liverpool are mulling options on the attacking front and they remain keen on bringing to Anfield the young Borussia Dortmund midfield sensation, Christian Pulisic.
Apparently, Liverpool were after the 18-year-old in the summer transfer season but the deal could not happen. With another opportunity this January, Jürgen Klopp is known to try signing the player once again. Dortmund, however, aren’t likely to allow the player to leave so easily after the USA International has become one of their prominent players this season.
Their reluctance to sell the youngster has resulted in his price tag going up. Many top European clubs are after the midfielder and reports state that any club looking to do a deal would need to start the bidding at around the £27 million mark.
Liverpool could well splash the cash if Klopp thinks Pulisic is the kind of player he needs to continue the fine run. At 172 cm, Pulisic is not the tallest but that isn’t a massive factor at all considering players like Santi Cazorla, N’Golo Kanté, and Eden Hazard have thrived in the League.
His small physique allows him to chase defenders and this is exactly what Klopp needs the youngster in his team. With Liverpool set to miss the services of Dany Ings, who is put for the season, and attacking midfielder Sadio Mane, who would be leaving to play the African Cup of Nations in January, Klopp perhaps need one or two players more to ensure that his team continues their impressive run and don’t fall off the pace in case there are any injuries to his players.
Pulisic displays similar attributes to Mane in his play. The way he dribbles past opponents in the attacking third makes the young midfielder a constant threat for the opponent’s defence. His ability has helped him to bag 2 goals in Bundesliga and 1 goal in the Champions league. It was his goal that helped Dortmund qualify for the round of 16. He also has this knack of producing some defence ripping passes in and around the box. He has already bagged 4 assists this season in Bundesliga in 6 appearances.
However, his agility and passing prowess could well be overshadowed due to his short height, which gives him a huge disadvantage in Premier League, well at least initially when players easily get outmuscled by the more experienced defenders.
At Liverpool, Pulisic will have to compete with the likes of Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum for the first team, but it seems that he will probably start on the bench in the initial stages, given his young age. Given his attacking prowess, he could turn out to be a good attacking midfielder under Klopp.
