West Ham’s chaotic performance towards the end and their inability to cope with Tottenham’s introduction of pace and width by substituting on Heung-Min Son resulted in 3-2 defeat for the Hammers at the White Hart Lane. Despite leading 2-1 till the 88th minute, West Ham were unable to hold on and two goals in three minutes from Harry Kane gave Tottenham all three points. Below are West Ham’s player ratings:
Darren Randolph: 6.5/10
Randolph made an excellent save to deny Eric Dier from close range but wasn’t able to keep Winks from scoring Tottenham’s first goal. He was also unable to prevent Son from crossing in for Harry Kane for the second goal.
Aaron Cresswell: 7.5/10
Cresswell played well to keep Walker on his toes and with Tottenham playing without their actual wingers, the West Ham players enjoyed a lot of freedom out-wide.
Winston Reid: 7/10
The centre-back was good throughout the game as he made several decent interceptions and was West Ham’s central defensive figure in keeping Tottenham quiet until the 88th minute. Reid was sent off for two reckless challenges in the dying minutes of the game.
Angelo Ogbonna: 7/10
Ogbonna did quite well in the first half and majority of the second half but was shaky near the end of the game.
Cheikhou Kouyate: 7/10
Kouyate had a great battle with Tottenham’s left-back Danny Rose and he did well for most of the game except the last few minutes.
Michail Antonio: 8/10
Antonio was a live-wire throughout the game. He made some excellent runs through the right wing and ran Danny Rose ragged. He also scored West Ham’s first goal with an excellent header from close range.

Manuel Lanzini: 8/10
Lanzini was excellent in bringing West Ham on the front-foot and his influence made West Ham’s counters even more dangerous. He also scored from the penalty spot to give West Ham lead after a foul on Reid by Janssen in the penalty box.
Pedro Obiang: 7/10
Obiang did well to suffocate Tottenham’s midfield in the first and most of the second half but failed to contain Tottenham’s midfielders towards the end.
Andre Ayew: 6/10
Andre Ayew’s performance was quite underwhelming and he was subbed off in the 61st minute.
Dmitri Payet: 7.5/10
Payet made some excellent runs and combined really well with Lanzini which made West Ham really dangerous on the counter.
Diafra Sakho: 7/10
Sakho played quite well but wasn’t able to fully exploit Tottenham’s defensive lapses.
Substitutes
Simone Zaza: 6/10
Zaha seemed to have been lacking confidence as he did well with the linkup play but his finishing was quite poor.
Edimilson Fernandes: 7/10
Initially did well to soak up the Tottenham pressure but was driven too deep by persistent pressure from Tottenham.
Havard Nordtveit: 6/10
Nordtveit gave away the penalty in the dying minutes of the game as he slid in inside the penalty area.
