Celtic secured their 100th major trophy in their history with a comfortable win over Aberdeen in the League Cup final. The Hoops shrugged off Aberdeen 3-0 in the final of the Scottish League Cup pretty convincingly. Tom Rogic opened the scoring for Celtic after cutting in from the right flank in the 15th minute with a nice curler. Jozo Simunovic played an excellent pass to pick out a pass for the Aussie playmaker and Rogic once again took his name on the scoresheet.
In the 37th minute, James Forrest doubled the lead for the Hoops with an almost identical goal. He picked up the ball at the centre of the pitch and drove at the Aberdeen defence before firing an unstoppable shot past the Aberdeen keeper. Rogic and Forrest combined beautifully for the third goal and it was Forrest who won the penalty that resulted in the third of the afternoon.
Moussa Dembele had a silent game but did not make any mistake from the spot and scored his 17th of the season in all competitions. Brendan Rodgers gets his first piece of glory in Scottish football and it seems like there are plenty more to follow. Here are the Celtic player ratings from the game-
Craig Gordon: 6.5/10
Was not tested much but did well when he was called upon. Made a good save from Considine’s well-hit corner.
Mikael Lustig: 6/10
Was not much adventurous as we mostly see from the Swede. Defensively he was solid.
Erik Sviatchenko: 7/10
Good block from Maddison’s shot from distance. Was assured throughout the game.
Jozo Simunovic: 7.5/10
An excellent game from the young Croat. Was brilliant with his defensive positioning. Nice awareness to set up Rogic for the opener.
Emilio Izaguirre: 5.5/10
Not the best game from the Honduran. Was beaten too easily on one occasion. Also conceded a cheap foul. Made a brilliant cross for Dembele.
