Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford has always been a fixture which has been the measure of how prepared the Gunners are to challenge for the title. The fixture is always considered to be a real acid test for the Gunners with a win having a great effect on the overall mentality and belief of the visiting side. It was a strange game as the visitors were extremely disappointing in their approach playing defensively with their first effort on target coming in the 89th minute which earned them the goal. Here’s how the Arsenal players fared in the game on a scale of 10.
Cech (7/10)
Needed to be at his best to keep out Mata’s effort in the first half. Made more decent stops to keep the hosts at bay.
Jenkinson (6/10)
Was supposed to be the weak link of Arsenal, pitted up against Anthony Martial, did do his job decently. Couldn’t contribute in the attacking though being too passive in his passing.
Mustafi (6.5/10)
The German defender didn’t shy away from putting his body on the line with some very good blocks. Was exposed against pace a couple of times but overall did well defensively
Koscielny (7.5/10)
Koscielny defended bravely and with real quality as he was able to deal with the pressure the hosts exerted on the Arsenal penalty area.
Monreal (6.5/10)
Was troubled by the pace of Rashford and Valencia but was able to make use of his excellent anticipation to make some important interceptions and blocks.
Watch this hilarious video below where we called Jose Mourinho a LOSER and a COWARD in front of Arsene Wenger just before the game.
Coquelin (7/10)
Good with his passing the Frenchman worked extremely hard and made some excellent tackles in the midfield. Played his role in the defensive midfield well
Elneny (6.5/10)
The Egyptian kept things ticking in the midfield with his accurate passing but failed to make the impact his manager would have wanted him to in terms of his forward play.
Walcott (5.5/10)
Ineffectual in his wing play, Theo never looked threatening with his runs and failed to keep possession being awful in his passing.
Ozil (5/10)
Another big game where he went missing. Ozil was totally anonymous without having any sort of impact for the visitors.
Ramsey (5/10)
Made the runs but looked like he could never operate at the same wavelength of his teammates. Defensively was very poor winning only one of his 7 attempted tackles in the midfield.
Alexis Sanchez (6/10)
Started the game as the centre forward and again failed to make an impact up front centrally. Had to drop deep to be involved in the game and showed some good movements but was very poor with his passes.
Substitutes
Olivier Giroud (7/10)
Came off the bench to score the only goal of the game with a wonderful header and in turn became the player to score the most goals coming off the bench for Arsenal.
Granit Xhaka (6.5/10)
Passed very well and helped in the defensive phase with his strong defending.
Oxlade-Chamberlain (7.5/10)
Came on with 7 minutes to go and provided the only instance of real wing play producing a wonderful cross which led to the goal for his team.
