Henrikh Mkhitaryan was one of the big money signings made by Manchester United this summer with the club paying £27m for his services. The Armenian international has not featured much since his move to England having played just 107 minutes of Premier League football. With the player getting so little game time there were rumours of him having a rift with manager Jose Mourinho which the player has denied.
While he previously stated that he needs a bit of time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, the attacker is determined to get more game time with his current club.
In a recent interview on the Football Football Federation of Armenia’s official website, Mkhitaryan said, “I know I can succeed at Manchester United, and I want to show everyone that I deserve to be a key player in this team and this league. Today I don’t have enough playing time, so I have to do my best so the coaching staff, give me the chance to play. There are no disappointments, just challenges. I never give up when I encounter obstacles in my way. I just continue going until I reach my career objectives.”
In what seems to be a clear indication of how seriously the versatile forward in taking the situation of being out of the first team, a recent development has Mirror reporting Dortmund coach Tomas Tuchel telling the club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke and General manager Michael Zorc he would be happy to take 27-year-old Mkhitaryan back in January if Dortmund can agree a loan deal with United.
Mkhitaryan enjoyed his best spell at the Signal Iduna Park, donning the yellow of the German club for whom he scored 11 goals and assisted 15 in the Bundesliga last season. He was expected to make a similar kind of impact at Old Trafford after being in such rich vein of form last season but things didn’t go according to plan with the thigh injury he picked up in September making things more difficult as he had to remain out of action for seven weeks.
A move back to Dortmund might just be the tonic needed for the Armenian to regain his touch. Dortmund do have a previous instance of buying back a player from United with Shinji Kagawa returning to Germany after two disappointing seasons at Old Trafford.
Mkhitaryan though has put the rumours of his rift with Mourinho and a move away from Old Trafford to rest temporarily with his recent comments where he described his current manager as one of the best in the world and EPL the best league in the world. His move to BVB could infuse the much-needed confidence in him. The Armenian fires when he is high on confidence and considering Tuchel’s open and pressing game, it might be the ideal set up for Mkhitaryan to get back to his best after a torrid few months and make an impact next season.
Nevertheless with the January transfer window drawing close the future of the player might take yet another turn where he can find himself back at Borussia Dortmund.
