Tottenham Hotspur started this season on an upbeat note although they faded towards the end of last season and let their eternal rivals pip them to the 2nd spot. While the frustration was apparent, the presence of an able coach in Mauricio Pochettino and a replenished squad raring for another go marked their start.
A 3rd place finish ensured a return to the Champions League for Spurs and on the flipside a jam-packed fixture list which they were more than happy to deal with. And to deal with the fixtures and make the necessary additions to enhance the squad, Poch make some notable additions to his team. They are currently in the 5th spot and very much within striking distance of the Top 2.
Spurs are the only team remaining unbeaten in the League and they have negotiated the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal to keep the record intact. In fact, the 2-0 win against City was perhaps their highest point of the season.
With things in the balance as far they are concerned, we shall take a brief look at how the summer signings have performed till now.
MOUSSA SISSOKO- 4/10
The helicopter hopper from Newcastle United somehow managed to earn a £30m deadline day move to Tottenham Hotspur, days after describing Arsenal as his dream club. While Spurs would have hoped the player carries on his form for his National team in the League for them, they have been pretty wrong about that. Much to the delight of the Geordies, he has looked a complete waste and has to turn things around fast or be considered a big money flop. His Squawka rating of -43 in 6 appearances sums up the whole story.
VICTOR WANYAMA- 8/10
The defensive midfielder has been the best signing for Spurs this summer without any doubt. He has marshalled the midfield and his supreme control on the ball and ability to play the ball under pressure have made Spurs look solid till now. He has been fully committed to the cause and has gone into tackles fearlessly and his physique has been of big help.
VINCENT JANSSEN- 6/10
The jury is still out on the Dutchman even after 3 months and it is partly due to the lack of opportunities. He has been mainly restricted to substitute appearances and during the period Kane was injured, Son’s form kept him ahead in the pecking order. Janssen has scored a goal and has another assist but he clearly needs to do more in whatever opportunity he is getting.
GEORGES KEVIN N’KOUDOU- 4/10
After a protracted transfer saga of their own, Spurs finally signed N’Koudou with very little known about the player. The Marseille man can play across the front three but there was always doubts whether he could crack the settled set of players with the likes of Lamela missing out frequently. And that has proven to be the case. He has been substituted on 3 occasions and has had no playing time or performance of note till now.
