Liverpool fans will be a happy lot right now. Their team are top of the table and showcasing the most attractive football in the League on a weekly basis. 30 goals from 11 games in a brilliant figure after all. They finally look like a Jürgen Klopp team now and could very well land the title if they can sustain their form. As a unit, Liverpool have been excellent this season and a part of the reason is their summer signings.
Let us take a look at how the summer signings of Liverpool have fared so far.
Sadio Mane- 9/10
The Senegalese forward was signed by Klopp in the summer for a club record fee of £36m. The agile forward became Liverpool’s fifth major signing from St. Mary’s in the last three years after Lallana, Lambert, Lovren and Clyne. Mane’s impact at Anfield has been huge from the very first day. The 24-year-old has played 11 games in all competitions in a Red jersey and has scored 6 goals while setting up 4 goals for his teammates. A 9 out of 10 rating is pretty well-deserved.
Georginio Wijnaldum- 8/10
The birthday boy Wijnaldum, who turned 26 today, was signed by Klopp this summer for £25m. A major part of the Liverpool fan base was skeptical about the deal but the Dutchman has proved his doubters wrong with relative ease. Even though he is primarily an attacking midfielder, Klopp has mostly used him in a deeper role and the former PSV star has not let his manager down.
Joel Matip- 8.5/10
While the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal had to break the bank to bring in quality central defenders to shore up their defence, Liverpool did just that without spending a single penny. Klopp is a master of transfers and a free transfer to bring in a stopper like Matip once again proved it. The Cameroonian has been an absolute rock at the back for Liverpool and his passing has benefitted Liverpool to play on the front foot.
Loris Karius- 7/10
Liverpool desperately needed to replace Mignolet as the first-choice keeper after the Belgian’s errant displays under the bar over the last few seasons. Karius looked a bit shaky in his first few games but he looks to be improving and looks like he would be a long-term success at Anfield.
Others
Alex Manninger- NA
Has not played a single minute to be rated.
Ragnar Klavan- 7/10
Looks like a solid backup defender and Klopp brought him at a bargain price too.
Marko Grujic- 7/10
Has not played much yet but is slowly but surely adapting to the Premier League. In his two League Cup games, the Serbian wonderkid was impressive. Liverpool have a serious talent in the 20-year-old midfield dynamo.
