The first North London Derby ended 1-1 and both the teams would be seemingly happy to have not lost the game. It was an evenly fought contest where Arsenal slightly edged the first half before Spurs came back strongly and had chances to maybe win the game. But the travelling fans were content with a point and the return of Harry Kane would have been a boost to them just before the international break.
Ironically, both the goals were scored by players in white as Kevin Wimmer inadvertently headed in the first goal before Harry Kane levelled things with a coolly taken penalty. Walcott hit the woodwork with a thunderous effort in the first half while Eriksen had his curling free-kick denied by the post in the second.
With the international break settling in after today’s Premier League action, let us take a brief look at the talking points from today’s game.
POCHETTINO’S TACTICS CATCH ARSENAL BY SURPRISE
In a change from the usual, Pochettino went with 3 players at the back for only the second time in his spell at Spurs. With Alderweireld injured, very few people would have thought of such a change. While Wimmer, who was the centrally placed defender, scored an own goal and picked up a booking, they nonetheless looked calm and assured in this set-up. The 3-man defence with the wing-backs acted as the perfect launching pad for the counters and as Walcott admitted after the match, they were indeed taken by surprise initially.
