Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez could face a Jail sentence after he was found of a tax evasion in Spain during his stint with Barcelona. The Chilean winger spent three seasons with The Catalans before making a move to England.
It was reported that the former Udinese star failed to pay taxes on income of nearly £900,000 in between 2012 and 2013. He allegedly used an offshore company to transfer money to avoid tax on his income from image right earnings.
But his agent has refuted the claims, “Alexis Sanchez has fully obeyed the laws imposed by the countries where he has resided.”
“He has paid taxes to all the local tax and revenue organisations. Furthermore, all of his personal and image rights income has been declared to all of those national tax and revenue agencies.”
Earlier Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano and Neymar had been accused of not paying taxes. Messi was even sentenced to 21 months in prison but according to Spanish law, a sentence of two years can be served under probation.
Neymar was found guilty in a case in Rio and was asked to pay a sum of £36.3m.
