West Ham United fans had big expectations this season after a successful last campaign in the Premier League. However, their season up to this point has been a massive letdown. They look like a shadow of themselves when compared to the last campaign but Dimitri Payet, the darling of the West Ham fans, has still managed to impress.
ESPN are reporting that French giants Paris Saint-Germain are looking to use West Ham’s poor form to their advantage and are preparing a January move for Payet.
West Ham need to start looking for replacements for their stellar performer really soon and here are three players they should consider.
Rachid Ghezzal
The Algerian winger was linked constantly with a number of Premier League clubs in the summer and West Ham United were one of those sides who were high on his tail. With his Lyon contract expiring in the summer of 2017, the 24-year-old could be available on a bargain in January.
A quick and skillful winger, Ghezzal is a brilliant crosser of the ball and would get the best out of Andy Carroll who happens to be a menace in the air. Ghezzal is a good option for West Ham and they could consider going for him if Payet indeed leaves the club.
Paul-Georges Ntep
Ntep is a quality winger who has often been linked with a switch to the Premier League. The French international is going out of contract at Rennes in the summer of 2017 just like Rachid Ghezzal and could also be available on a bargain. A quick and strong winger who has a good eye for both goals and assists, he’d be a good addition to the Hammers.
A Premier League player who can be compared with the 24-year-old is Liverpool winger Sadio Mane. West Ham should definitely make a move for the 24-year-old if Payet leaves the club.
Hatem Ben Arfa
There is a huge competition for a starting place on the flanks at Parc des Princes right now which will get more intense if PSG make a move for Payet. Hatem Ben Arfa moved to PSG this summer from Nice after reviving his career remarkably with the Ligue 1 side but is struggling for playing time under Emery Unai.
West Ham should make a move for the out of favour France star if PSG makes a raid on them for their best player. The 29-year-old has Premier League experience in his locker from his Newcastle days even though it was not the best of experiences. West Ham would not regret giving him a second chance to showcase his talent in English football.
