After having two decent seasons in Real Madrid, attacking midfielder James Rodriguez is seeing a lot of the bench this season under Zinedine Zidane. The attacking midfielder has appeared only 4 times this season in La Liga and with Isco and Kovacic getting the nod before him repeatedly, his Madrid career is nearing an end. He has grown frustrated in the club.
At 25, the midfielder still has a plenty of game left in him. His current situation has put lots of big European clubs on red alert. Rodriguez joined the Los Blancos in a £71million deal back in July 2014. The former Monaco and Porto playmaker has failed to establish himself in Zinedine Zidane’s favoured starting line-up and with Luka Modric still to return, his place doesn’t look cemented.
T4O looks at 3 potential destinations for Rodriguez
Juventus- Recently tabloids have linked the Columbian with Italian giants Juventus, who are believed to be interested in bringing the midfielder. Juventus have won the Serie A for the last 5 years and are leading the current season with 4 points.
The Serie A giants have cash to spend following the world record £89 million summer sale of Paul Pogba to Manchester United. With a host of top quality strikers like Paulo Dybala and Higuaín up front Rodrigues would be a brilliant addition to the side. Juventus have only one in attacking midfield position, Hernanes. Rodriguez won’t have much of a competition.
Chelsea- Antonio Conte is looking at a major overhaul for the Blues this season with many players, who led them to the Premier League title two years back leaving the club. With players like Cesc Fabregas and John Obi Mikel likely to leave in January, Conte could move for Rodriguez. He could be a potential addition to the squad playing with Hazard and Pedro up front below Diego Costa. After a dismal season last year, Chelsea have rejuvenated now sitting 2nd in the league table.
PSG- The French giants ate lacking a proper central attacking midfielder in the squad. Although it is a pretty star-studded squad, they are left with Hatem Ben Arfa and injured Javier Pastore in the middle. They are yet to win the Champions League despite beefing up their squad. Bringing in Rodriguez could seriously boost their European ambitions. With Lucas and Di Maria on the flanks and Verratti and Matuidi behind at the anchoring position, Rodriguez could really flourish in the French side.
