Can Liverpool win the title this season or it is a bit too much to ask? ‘Next year is our year’- every optimistic Liverpool fan has been saying this for more than two decades but the Reds are yet to win the biggest trophy in English football since 1990. However, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool seem a very different side and there are hopes that this team might end the long-standing drought for success.
Let us not drag into the title talks so early and enjoy Jürgen Klopp’s heavy metal football being showcased in the Premier League week in week out. If this ends with the title, then well and good or ‘next year is our year’ is always there.
If Liverpool want to win the title, they should consider bolstering their squad in January and here are three midfielders they could go for.
Will Hughes
The 21-year-old burst onto the scene with Derby County quite a while back and it is a big surprise to see him still plying his trade in the Championship. A promising midfielder with all-round abilities, Hughes has been ever-present for the Rams since he got his breakthrough a very young age and has 167 appearances to his name till date.
He recently rejected a contract extension at Pride Park and should ideally move to the Premier League now in order to reach the heights his career promised. The 21-year-old could be a good piece of addition to Liverpool.
Mateo Kovacic
The Croatian midfield dynamo is finally getting much-deserved playing time for Real Madrid this season but mostly due to the constant injury crisis to their midfielders. As soon as Real Madrid have their first-choice midfield trio of Casemiro, Kroos and Modric back, Kovacic is again likely to languish on the bench. The Croat fits the bill perfectly and can reach the dizzy heights his career promised when he broke onto the scene at Zagreb. He is fast, dynamic, creative and flamboyant.
Leon Goretzka
Klopp knows German football inside out and Goretzka is one of the biggest talents in Germany right now. The 21-year-old is a key player at Schalke right now and is impressing on the big stage.
The 21-year-old has everything you want to see in a midfielder. He is big and strong, a brilliant passer of the ball and boasts a gifted technique which coupled with his versatility, makes him even a better player. Capable of playing as a number six, number eight, number ten or even as a winger, he can be one hell of a signing by Klopp.
