One good thing about Jose Mourinho is that he always finds a way to appease the fans just enough for the next match.
After their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea in the English Premier League, he had some consolation by defeating rivals Manchester City in the English League Cup. Then again when Manchester United had an utterly frustrating draw against Burnley at home which was followed by a defeat in Istanbul against Fenerbahce, United quickly got a win over Swansea City before going into the international break.
Surprisingly, no matter how star-studded the United teams look, hardly any players played in the World Cup qualifying round in the weekends, unlike Manchester City. It is a good news for Mourinho though as he would be getting a fit and strong squad to play against Arsenal when the international break ends.
United players have largely been lackluster in their performances with the boss himself admitting they haven’t shown 100 percent commitment in the games. He even went to say that he cannot win anything with those players. Hence, this break was a great opportunity to get things running.
Wayne Rooney
Although the England forward has lost his place in the starting eleven for his club, he was still the first choice to lead the team to the World Cup Qualifying game against Scotland and England manager Gareth Southgate made it very clear.
And the 32 years old was up for the job. Taking his place in the number 10 position, Rooney produced the perfect corner in the dying the minutes of the game that was headed home from Cahill. He looked comfortable in the role once again and also stretched himself far wide when needed. He had 3 perfect crosses in the D-boxes that made major concerns for the opponents.
With his stunner against Fenerbahce in the midweek, he is seemingly returning to form. Now that Ibrahimovic is suspended for the match against Arsenal, he is more than probable to get the nod.
