Aberdeen and Celtic will lock horns in truly the Super Sunday in Scottish football. It’s the final of the Scottish League Cup and both sides will give everything in their locker to bag a win. Brendan Rodgers will be keen to get his hands on his first piece of silverware in Scotland which he does deserve for the work he has done at Parkhead since taking over the club in the summer.
On the other hand, Derek John McInnes has done pretty well to push Celtic in the last two seasons and will hope to cause an upset tomorrow. Celtic will definitely head into the game as favourites but cannot let complacency get into them. Here are three key battles those could decide the game.
Ash Taylor Vs Moussa Dembele
26-year-old Ash Taylor is likely to start at the heart of the Aberdeen defence against Celtic. A big player who excels aerially and is a pretty good passer of the ball, Taylor is not someone a striker can easily overpower and overrun.
Moussa Dembele has been in a scintillating form since switching to Celtic from Fulham this summer. The young Frenchman is blessed with a brilliant sync of both power and pace but will find it hard to get past Taylor.
Ryan Jack Vs Scott Brown
The two skippers will battle in the middle of the park for the control of the game. At just 24 years of age, Ryan Jack is a key player for Aberdeen. He is strong, energetic and creative. In many ways, the 24-year-old reminds of a younger Scott Brown. On the other hand, Brown, despite being 31, is having a sensational season for Celtic.
On a consistent basis this season, the Celtic captain has bossed the midfield which is one of the reasons why Celtic are unbeaten in domestic competitions. The battle between Jack and Brown will be worth to look forward to.
Jonny Hayes Vs Emilio Izaguirre
Hayes has been superb for Aberdeen this season with his lively displays from the right flank. The 29-year-old is an explosive winger who likes to take on defenders. He can score goals and can also act as a creator.
From 15 games in all competitions, the Irishman has assisted nine times this season while scoring twice. Celtic will definitely miss their first choice left-back Kieran Tierney against Aberdeen. Izaguirre is an experienced player but has not played much since the last season after Tierney burst onto the scene. That can prove to be costly for Celtic.
