Arsenal almost a victim of atrocious refereeing
Curses can come in all shape and sizes and this time it came in the avatar of Mike Jones. Bad refereeing generally doesn’t win the race for the important talking points of a game but when it is this terrible, we can’t help.
Mike Jones looked uber-confident in all his wrong calls. Offended more often for the manner players protested than they tackled, Mike Jones turned the game on its head with his appalling decisions.
Nacho Monreal’s tackle was too soft for a penalty decision and equally hard was Alexis Sanchez’s tackle on Harry Arter, which could have broken his ankle.
The game featured many such decisions, which didn’t let either side play in the right mindset at times.
Spirited Away
Many touted the match to be the battle of two teams that play in a similar manner and share the same philosophy. It was very much clear in the opening minutes that both of them were best when they attacked with both showing witty turns and back-heels at either end.
The only reason Arsenal triumphed over Bournemouth was because of the Cherries’ inability to continue playing the way they believe in.
After a couple of repeated chances squandered by the Cherries, their spirit slowly withered away and Arsenal capitalised on it. And one major reason for Arsenal’s strength was Chamberlain and Walcott on the flanks.
We have rarely seen them starting and even more rarely have Arsenal benefitted so effectively from their pace. The strength, which was just a FIFA video game fantasy till now was turned into reality today.
