It was not just a crucial game for both Aberdeen and Celtic when the two giants of Scotland locked horns in an early Saturday kickoff in the Premiership but the outcome of the game was highly anticipated to forecast the fate of the title race. For the sake of an entertaining Premiership race, Aberdeen needed a win or at least a draw but the Dons failed to come up with a positive result at Pittodrie. Celtic won the game 0-1 thanks to a stunning strike from Aussie playmaker Tom Rogic but it could have easily been worse for the Dons.
With Celtic getting back to Parkhead with all three points from Pittodrie, it looks like that the Premiership will be another one-sided affair, this time too. The win takes Celtic’s points tally to 28 from 10 games while Aberdeen remain their closest challengers with 18 from 11 games. St. Johnstone, Hearts and Rangers all have an opportunity to overtake the Dons in the table but Celtic look untouchable at the moment.
Derek McInnes made a big call by benching Adam Rooney and attacking midfielder James Maddison. Aberdeen missed the influential duo in the game. Jonny Hayes was the most impressive player for the Dons with his surging runs into the Celtic territory but Rooney’s presence was missed big time. Aberdeen started the game really well but Celtic slowly started dominating and then came the goal out of nowhere and from that point, Aberdeen could not even get close to the Hoops.
In the 23rd minute, Tom Rogic nicely controlled a loose ball in the air outside the box and struck an amazing volley with his left foot. Aberdeen keeper Joe Lewis was on the top of his game today but Rogic’s volley was unstoppable. Celtic had a number of chances to double or possibly triple their lead but Lewis came out on top every time. Celtic fans would have liked a bigger win but three points arei all that matter.
Twitter reacted to Celtic’s win over Aberdeen and it was Tom Rogic who got the plaudits. Here are some best tweets on the game,
