Jose Mourinho’s frustrating time at Manchester United continues as the Red Devils were held 1-1 at home by lowly-placed Stoke City. Mark Hughes’ side have experienced a horrible start to their season but this is easily the best point they have grabbed so far. It was a heavily one-sided game where Manchester United created enough chances to win two games, but their profligacy in front of goal came back to haunt them.
Stoke City will return home as the happier of the two sides as this could be the game where their resurrection starts.
Manchester United started the game slowly and so did Stoke City. Heavy touches, poor passes and losing possession of the ball were the highlights in the early minutes of the game.
United dominated the possession of the ball in major parts of the game and had 67% possession and created some good openings. Paul Pogba, world’s most expensive player, was particularly poor. The Frenchman took as many as five shots throughout the game but could keep only one of them on target.
Stoke City keeper Lee Grant, a loanee from Championship side Derby County, was particularly impressive pulling off some excellent stops to keep his side in the game. The Englishman came up with as many as eight saves. However, he was helpless on the occasion he was beaten. It was Anthony Martial with a brilliant curling finish from the left after he capitalised on a brilliantly worked recovery from Geoff Cameron to stop Wayne Rooney.
Just when it was looking that Manchester United will comfortably seal all three points, David de Gea came up with a rare goalkeeping error. Jonathan Walters did very well to put the ball into the area and Joe Allen pounced on the rebound and fired it into the net. The Welsh midfielder was brilliant throughout the game and capped his excellent display with probably the most important goal in Mark Hughes’ managerial career.
Manchester United fans will be largely disappointed after the game and we do feel for them. They took as many as 23 shots during the game but could score just one. Twitter reacted on the game, especially when Joe Allen scored the equaliser while Paul Pogba was once again trolled after his miserable outing. Here are some of the best tweets.

If you had no idea about football and was asked who was worth £100 million, your answer would be Joe Allen.

Jürgen Klopp is a genius. Sold Joe Allen to Stoke so that he could score against Man Utd.
Absolute genius.
