English outlet the Mirror has reported that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is one of the Real Madrid’s targets as the club’s hierarchy has made a shortlist of some names which they intend to appoint in the future even with current manager Zinedine Zidane doing his job well at the Bernabéu.
It is also understood that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is well aware of the interest of the Spanish giants and will know that he will have to fight to keep the gaffer at the club despite the Argentine manager signing a new five-year contract last summer.
While given the level of ambition the coach has, it would be difficult to resist the temptation of turning down a chance to manage one of the biggest clubs of the world but there are many reasons why Poch should do it.
The primary reason for it is the project that is underway at White Hart Lane. Since his arrival from Southampton, a club where he did exceptional work as well, the 44-year old manager has really turned the fortunes of the Lilywhites within a couple of years. After finishing 5th in his first season at the London club, last year Tottenham were very impressive and were in contention to win the title only to capitulate at the last moment and unexpectedly finish 3rd. Last season should be the turning point for Pochettino as it taught him a lot, something he would be desperate to make good use of this season.
His exciting project at Tottenham is on the cusp of something great and it would be really foolish to leave at this critical juncture. Having recently built a state of the art youth facility and training centre, Spurs are moving in the right direction after a long time and it seems that in the coming years they would be able to reap the rewards of their realistic planning which will allow for the base of having a team which is able to challenge for trophies on multiple fronts.
At this moment all that is required is managerial stability. Pochettino has already found out that the players at his disposal are very well suited to the philosophy of his footballing pamphlet. Now in his third season at the club, he has also had time to mould the squad to his own liking having the players required to execute the strategy he plays which is one of the most important things in getting the desired results from a managerial point of view.
After performing admirably well in his first two seasons, Poch is very well respected at his club and is beginning to gain more power to influence proceedings owing to his team and his players which will allow him to work without any interruptions and blockades, something one can never have at Real Madrid.
In terms of job security and having the provision of enjoying uninterrupted work environment alone, Pochettino needs to stay at Tottenham, add to that he has an excellent chance of reaping the rewards of the work that has been done at the background and his own self over the two years, the Argentine manager will not get a better chance of building a dynasty at a club that he already has now at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham fans would like him to stay and so will the Premier League followers for there’s nothing more relishing than experiencing good teams battle it out on the pitch. The Tottenham manager certainly is a manager who knows how to build a good team and play a style which excites the fans.
