Manchester United boss Jose Mourino insisted that Michael Carrick remains an important part of his plans. The 35 year old who signed a one year contract extension has featured in only two games this season.
Mourinho recently gave a start to Ashley Young against Liverpool and believes that the veteran midfielder could follow him very fast. Young gave a decent performance against The Reds and the manager heaped praises on him.
Paul Scholes had earlier made a statement that United need to use Carrick beside Pogba to get the best out of the 23 year old midfielder.
Mourinho said, “I am probably more happy with the Ashley Young situation because to perform like he did [at Anfield] is only possible because he is phenomenal in the way he trains.
“If you don’t play, you don’t have much fitness. If you don’t train to the top, you are not ready to play. It’s the same with Michael Carrick. The day I need to play Carrick, I am sure he is going to answer because they train really well,” he added.
