So much for the passing game
For a style of play that leaves players ragged inside their own box, City failed to cause any problem with their passing. With only one key pass from inside the box, City looked clueless for the second half and parts of the first half.
Manchester United, on the other hand, had 5 key passes with 3 within the box and the other two being long balls, good ones at that!
Mata, Herrera and Rashford won the game for United
Rashford was gritty in attack with some tenacious dribbling that frustrated the likes of Otamendi, Kompany, and Maffeo. Herrera displayed high standards of pressing while Mata did his best to retain the ball and win aerial duels.
Ibrahimovic had a good game too and standards will be expected to increase in due time. Marcus Rashford definitely gives his best every time he pulls on the United jersey and the Spanish duo or Mata and Herrera show passion beyond expectation, both in the manner they play and react.
Conclusion
It was a game that was barely tactical once United got their pressing right. City were clueless once Kompany was subbed off and Kolarov at the center back position didn’t help their case like a few games in the beginning.
United will be keen to build on from here, while Pep Guardiola has yet to win a game from 6 played so far.
