Jose Mourinho has had a decent start at Manchester United but things could have been much better for the Portuguese. The Red Devils are yet to show the kind of consistency needed to become Premier League champions and Jose Mourinho will definitely utilise the winter transfer window in order to bring that. We expect a busy transfer window at Old Trafford this January and the Red Devils have been already linked with a number of players across Europe.
The Daily Mail claims that Jose Mourinho is keeping close tabs on Jamaican starlet Leon Bailey ahead of the coming transfer window. The 19-year-old has already established himself as one of the best players in the Jupiter Pro League and his series of amazing displays in the Europa League has managed to catch the eye of the 20-time Premier League Champions.
As claimed by The Daily Mail, Manchester United sent two representatives, including chief scout Jim Lawlor, to Belgium to watch 19-year-old score in his side’s 3-1 Europa League win over Sassuolo last Thursday.
The Jamaican prodigy has managed to score six goals so far this season in his side’s Europa League campaign as well as setting up three assists from just eight games.
The youngster, who was awarded the Belgian Young Footballer of the Year award last season, has been quite average in the domestic division so far as he could manage just 1 goal and 1 assist from 8 games but doing such a brilliant job in continental football, that also at the tender age of 19, speaks volumes about his capabilities.
Bailey is a raw talent and can be molded into a world beater in near future if he gets the right guidance. Mourinho is not particularly a manager ideal for grooming young players but he is short of quality wide options at Old Trafford right now.
Jesse Lingard is doing quite well under the Portuguese gaffer but the likes of Mkhitaryan, Depay and Young have all failed to impress. Rashford and Martial have done well on the flanks but that is not their primary position which means Bailey will get a chance to impress if he opts for a move to the Theater of Dreams.
Unlike most modern day wingers, Bailey is a brilliant crosser of the ball from both flanks and that’s exactly what United need to get the best out of Zlatan Ibrahimović’s aerial prowess. With his blistering pace, ability to shoot with both feet and a jaw-dropping dribbling ability, Bailey looks like a perfect winger for Mourinho’s counter-attacking style. However, there is still a long way to go for the youngster and he has a lot to prove. The 19-year-old has to keep his head down and focus on his game as of now.
