It has been a difficult start to the season from Leicester City. However, what they achieved last season is almost impossible to replicate. So, we cannot really blame Claudio Ranieri and his boys for their slow start to the season. They defied all the odds last time out to win the biggest piece of silverware in English football. Retaining their title would have been too big an ask from them but the Foxes need to pick up their game in order to contend at least for a European place.
From what we have seen from Leicester city this season, there is a big Kante-sized void in the team and Ranieri has failed to overcome the departure of the midfield dynamo. Summer signing Nampalys Mendy has struggled with injuries so far while Daniel Amartey has not done particularly well in the middle of the park alongside Danny Drinkwater. The Ghana international will leave for the African Cup of Nations in January making things worse for the manager.
With the kind of start Leicester City had to their season, Claudio Ranieri is expected to utilise the winter transfer window in order to bolster his squad and a new defensive midfielder will be a high priority in his wishlist. Football Italia also suggests the same as the reliable Italian media house claims that the Foxes hold a firm interest in AC Milan defensive midfielder Juraj Kucka and are looking to test the Rossoneri’s resilience with a €10m bid in January.
Blessed with a big frame of 6 ft 1 in, Kucka is a strong defensive midfielder. The 29-year-old is blessed with an amazing aerial ability which is well reflected from his 3.2 aerial balls won every game in Serie A this season. The former Genoa midfielder also has a good eye for a pass and has registered 83.5% passing accuracy so far this season.
Kucka is a brilliant reader of the game and has ample experience at the top level. The Slovakia international boasts 51 caps for his country and has played for clubs like Sparta Prague, Genoa and Milan. With an average of 2.4 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.8 clearances every game in Serie A this season, Kucka plays a key role for Vincenzo Montella’s side and we are a bit unsure that he would like a move abroad to Leicester City from one of the traditionally biggest clubs in Europe.
AC Milan have a realistic chance of a European qualification this season and move to Leicester City does not look appealing for the Slovak now but if Claudio Ranieri can pull off this signing, it promises to be one hell of a deal.
