Numerous reports have suggested that almost all big European clubs are on high alert after Marco Verratti left the pitch this weekend after a verbal blow with Paris Saint-Germain manager after he was substituted in the 52nd minute. He was replaced by Matuidi in the game and PSG could manage only a goalless draw.
One of the clubs, who have been tracking the 24-year-old defensive midfield are Barcelona. Reports have also emerged that the Blaugrana have been watching the player closely. Now, although the PSG manager has clearly stated the reaction as purely coming from the frustrating score, clubs are sure to stay alerted sniffing that things are not well between the player and the club.
Marco Verratti could actually be a good buy for Barcelona especially when the La Liga champions are yet to find a perfect backup or long-term placement for their ever reliable Sergio Busquets. Barcelona at the moment play three in the middle with Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Busquets.
With Javier Mascherano at the end if his career, Luis Enrique is often found deploying the defensive midfielder as the centre back. Currently, with Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba injured at the back, he is found more or so there.
With Verratti’s strong passing, dribbling abilities, the talented midfielder is also able to provide some incisive passes from the middle. His qualities suit the most for Barcelona’s style of play where the team looks forward to playing the ball in good positions to the top three forwards Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Verratti’s ability to hold the ball and give penetrating passes makes him a strong asset for Barca. The fact that he is only 24 years old makes him the perfect long term prospect Barcelona is looking for to succeed Busquets. Verratti’s beautiful layoffs are sometimes a treat to watch and he is not afraid to go for a tackle.
The only weaknesses Verratti have, which could stop him from becoming a great player is his lack of discipline. He is often found losing concentration at games, which sometimes prove costly. His lack of height is also a big issue if compared to Sergio Busquets, who wins most of Barcelona’s aerial duels.
Verratti could really have a good chance of breaking into the first team in Barcelona more than any other teams. However, it is difficult to make a place one’s own in a club like Barcelona. Previously players like Alex Song and Hleb and much more have tried and failed terribly.
