At Chelsea, he brought his backroom staff from Portugal, the first change, then he brought in the likes Drogba, Essien, Tiago, Ricardo Carvalho and gave the team a complete makeover spending over 70 million. He left Chelsea having given them the first top-flight trophy for over 50 years. At Inter he did the same, winning the league in the first season and topping it off with a magnificent Champions League triumph in the following season.
At Real Madrid, he threatened to end Guardiola’s dominance and after many attempts, he got the break through. He brought the title back to Bernabéu at his stay and introduced a fantastic brand of counter-attacking football with his players. Returning back to Chelsea, he remoulded them in his first season and the next season he was sitting on top of the English throne again before falling down the dark tunnel.
So today, history, as well as execution, stands in Jose’s way. A successful manager might commit failures and get a dark patch but he never loses his class or touch. A transition isn’t done in months but it takes years. Stating example of United itself, it took 6 years for Ferguson to establish a team that would conquer Europe one day. Jose is not done yet. Not now when he’s so determined to achieve what he has been asked to.
He is stamping his authority on the team like he wants it and next season United will look better than what they achieve in the coming seven months, there is absolutely no doubt. Just like how a phoenix crumbles into ash and spreads itself gorgeously, Mourinho has it in him to do the same and despite the criticism, he looks like he has been trusted with time.
