Former United player Paul Ince feels that the current Manchester United team is still in the shadow of Louis Van Gaal. Manchester United is scheduled to face Liverpool on Monday at Anfield.
Liverpool are currently on a roll winning their last four league games. New signing Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino all have been very impressive as the Merseyside club has scored 18 goals in seven league matches.
Jose Mourinho has a brilliant start to his United career as United won the first three matches. But After that Mourinho faced severe criticism as United lost three back to back matches against arch-rivals Manchester City, Feyenoord and Watford. They somehow restored their pride by defeating Leicester City 4-1.
Ince thinks that Mourinho needs time if United want long-term success, “I feel his team is still behind that of Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City. “I don’t think they can win the title this season but maybe next year. He has to be given time to gel his team together. After so many years with Alex Ferguson it’s like they are now sacking managers after just one year or two and there has to be stability.”
Ince won two Premier League titles with United. He also had a brief stint with Liverpool. He further added, “Mourinho has brought in [Paul] Pogba and [Zlatan] Ibrahimović but it still feels a bit like it’s Louis van Gaal’s team and I think it will take him a lot longer to make it really his.”
