French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has been a player whose future at the San Siro is up in the air. The 23-year old Frenchman has been below par for Inter Milan this season and new coach Frank De Boer is reportedly disgusted with his attitude because he thinks that the player doesn’t listen to instructions.
When Kondogbia went to Inter from AS Monaco, he was very highly rated but within a year his market value has dipped as he couldn’t play according to the benchmark he set last season and has already been the reason behind some of the goals conceded by the Italian side this season.
De Boer has not played him after his error against Bologna as the coach felt outraged with the player repeating the same kind of mistakes quite regularly. The midfielder now finds himself on the bench and totally out of favour under the new Dutch manager of Inter and there are reports of him moving on in the January transfer window.
Premier League side Liverpool are said to be interested in the player as Merseyside red’s manager Jürgen Klopp is said to be an admirer of the qualities of the player. Liverpool, however, would like to take the player on loan until the end of the season and are also willing to pay 100% of his wages.
We have already seen earlier that when he is in full flow, Kondogbia can be a vital player for the team. A player who can play as a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder, the Frenchman is strong in the tackles as well as interceptions providing a nice shield for his back line.
The 6 ft 2 inch midfielder has got the physical presence required to provide the steel in the middle of the park and is also a very good passer of the ball and an excellent dribbler as well. He would fit in nicely in the middle of the pitch for Liverpool in being a very capable balanced option, for Klopp.
At the moment, the intensive pressing game is well executed by the players at Anfield. However, they still remain vulnerable to the counter attacks without the presence of a real destroyer in the midfield to assist Henderson. Lucas has performed in that role efficiently for a long time at the club but at his age it is impossible for him to keep up with the intensity his manager demands which would further justify the move for the Inter midfielder.
While Klopp can utilize him by effortlessly slotting him into his formation there are still a lot of question marks over a few things which needs to be rectified in order to ensure he becomes an asset and not a liability. Those things include his attitude and the time he takes on the ball before passing it.
His knack of trying to overdo things has landed him in a hot spot at Inter several times on the pitch and in the Premier League that can be fatal. Klopp is fully aware of this and this is the reason why Liverpool are keen on taking the player on loan.
If things change then the move would be made permanent but for the time being, it will be a very good move for the Reds to get him in January on loan.
