Antonio Conte, who is in the search of a defender, has reportedly identified Villarreal’s Argentina’s centre-back Mateo Musacchio as a potential target. AC Milan is also interested in the defender.
Antonio Conte is unhappy with the way their defence has performed so far. Chelsea have so far conceded nine goals in the Premier League and Conte is very keen to add a centre-back to bolster their defence.
Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic have passed their prime and looked very shaky in the current season. They had signed David Luiz from PSG and Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina on the deadline day but neither is yet to have a positive impact.
Musacchio came through the ranks of Villarreal and has so far made 228 appearances for the Spanish club. He has been a mainstay as Villarreal leaked only four goals this season. The Argentine International who made his debut for the Latin American side in 2011 also holds an Italian Passport.
He had almost signed for the Rossoneri but talks didn’t materialise. Milan is also keeping a tab on the Argentine defender
He has a contract till 2018 and Chelsea will have to shell out in the region of €30m if they want to sign the defender.
