Watford secured a vital victory away at the riverside stadium to jump to the 10th place in the table. The Hornets now have 11 points from their 8 games and have put an end to a slight dip in form which saw them take only a point from their last two games. Manager Walter Mazzarri executed a good game plan to mastermind another important victory and in a game which was pretty dull for most parts, the quality of the visitors shown through to make the difference. Let’s take a look at how the Watford players fared in the game out of a scale of 10.
Gomes (6/10)
Was not troubled much despite Boro’s 10 shots on goal. Saved three shots on target which were pretty innocuous. Distribution wasn’t great
Prodl (6/10)
Steady at the back with his presence. Coped very well aerially and made 7 clearances to keep a clean sheet
Kaboul (6/10)
Defensively did his job with 10 clearances but disappointed with his passing out from the back, gifting possession whenever he tried to be a little more inventive.
Britos (6/10)
Didn’t contribute a lot going forward but was very solid defensively helping out his back three whenever it was needed.
Amrabat (5/10)
Ineffective in the attacking and insufficient in his defending. A very average performance.
Behrami (6/10)
Passed the ball without much conviction in the middle and lost 4 of his 6 attempted tackles. Most of his passing remained passive.
Capoue (7.5/10)
Was a real player of quality for his team as he excelled with his very accurate passing in the middle. Worked hard once again and another decent performance along the way for the French midfielder.
Holebas (8.5/10)
Was the best player on the pitch. Scored a stunning goal which proved to be the difference and performed excellently as a wingback providing the thrust in the attack whilst remaining wonderfully effective at the back as well.
Deeney (6/10)
Didn’t do a lot in the game in terms of attacking. Wasn’t at his best but worked hard once again and won 4 headers.
Pereyra (7/10)
Passed the ball very well but suffered from not having options in the advanced areas. Disappointed with his crosses.
Success (7/10)
Didn’t pass the ball well but excelled with his intelligent movement off the ball and direct running. Gave a torrid time to the opposition left back and made some important inroads in the attacking areas as a result.
Subs
Zuniga (6/10)
Helped manage the game expertly in the last 15 minutes since coming on, retaining possession and helped out defensively as well.
Kabasele (N/A)
Ben Watson (N/A)
