Barcelona have signed a new record kit deal with American manufacturer Nike worth 155m Euros (£140m) per year starting from 2018.
Previously the record was held by Manchester United who signed a £750m deal over the span of 10 years with Adidas, ending their long association with Nike.
Barcelona have an option to extend the contract for a further five years. Vice president Manuel Arroyo confirmed the development, “It is a figure which puts us No 1 in the world for sponsorship in the sports industry. The fixed rate of the contract increases 48 per cent and the royalties also increase. From this season (2018-19), the total turnover of the deal will be around 155m euros.”
Barcelona had earlier announced that they are trying to breaking the barrier of £1bn in revenue and this deal will help them grow larger.
They posted a £612m revenue in the last year. Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu also added that they are trying to negotiate a new contract with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
