10 games on, realistically are they going to win the title?
I guess it’s too early to say that and it doesn’t look like they will.
One major reason is that, the top clubs of the Premier League that struggled last season are back on track challenging for the English throne. Pep Guardiola leading Manchester City, a determined Arsene Wenger with Arsenal, a totally rejuvenated Liverpool looking threatening under Jurgen Klopp and no one can really rule out Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
Pochettino’s men remain undefeated but even with all the hard work put in, they are behind City, Arsenal and Liverpool with plenty of big games to come against Arsenal, United and Chelsea.
Secondly, their fitness level will be severely tested with the Champions League on one side and the FA Cup. In spite of roping in backups, some key players feature in almost every match to give them the edge for example Eriksen, Alli, Son. So focusing entirely on the League is not an option. Besides, their rivals Liverpool and Chelsea are not in the elite league and they can concentrate on the premier league alone which gives them an added benefit.
Mauricio Pochettino himself has claimed that it is too early to label them as title challengers and potential trophy lifters at the end of the season. The lilywhites are building up a fantastic squad according to their manager’s taste and the project has just begun.
Ten games on into the season, they are boosted with a good news that top striker Harry Kane will return soon and honestly there is no denying that they won’t give the title a good fight just like last season but they don’t look like they will be title winners come May.
The project at White Hart Lane has just begun and in the coming years if they keep progressing this way, they might eventually land the Premier League after such a long time! Spurs fans would only hope so that way.
