Celtic welcomed their arch rivals Rangers back in the Premiership with a thumping 5-1 win at Parkhead. The stage was set for the first Old Firm Derby since 2012 in the Premiership but it was a totally one-sided affair as the Premiership holders Celtic thrashed their local rivals 5-1 at Parkhead. With Rangers making their way back to the top tier after four years of their liquidation, the Gers were expected to challenge Celtic for the title and put an end to what had become a one-horse race in their absence. But Celtic proved their doubters wrong as Rodgers maintains his 100% start in the Premiership.
In the last two Premiership matches, Celtic have won 4-1 against last two seasons’ runners up Aberdeen and now 5-1 against Rangers. Aberdeen and Rangers are arguably the best teams in the Premiership and the Hoops have demolished both of them. Celtic fans are definitely loving life under their new boss Brendan Rodgers and will be pumped up with confidence when they travel to Camp Nou this midweek for their opening game in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Young striker Moussa Dembele made the headlines on his Old Firm debut with a stunning hat-trick. The Frenchman also set up Scott Sinclair proving that he is not just a clinical finisher but someone who can also create. Philippe Senderos also makes the headlines but for very wrong reasons as the Swiss international was sent off after two yellow cards on his competitive debut for the Gers.
Rangers started the game in a decent manner and contested neck to neck in the first 30 minutes but slowly Celtic started dominating the game. It’s still early days of the season but from what it seems right now, the Premiership still remains a one-horse race.
Celtic were beaten by the Gers last season when the two locked horns in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup and that defeat is well behind them having put five past a Rangers side who simply couldn’t keep up after a decent opening 30 minutes.
Twitter reacted to Celtic’s brilliant win as Moussa Dembele was hailed by the fans. Here are some best tweets on the game.
It’s like Thierry Henry has gone back in time and pulled on a Celtic shirt with Moussa Dembele on the back.
What a performance!

Brendan Rodgers, Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele – all top signings along with de Vries and Gamboa. We’ll be fine.

Can now see why Senderos took a week to sign Rangers deal.
It’s not that he was having second thoughts, he just really is that slow.

A few in Switzerland have told me Senderos can no longer play at any decent sort of level. Performance today tends to back that view up.

Philippe Senderos is the worst footballer I’ve ever seen in my life ????????????????????
