Liverpool’s summer transfer window provided the manager with a chance to improve on his squad and Jurgen Klopp decided to make a number of signings to help him compete against the best in the Premier League next season. He has bought in a number of players that will see an increased competition for places in the starting XI but one position that has enough competition already in the squad is the striker’s position.
Jurgen Klopp likes to use Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings in that particular order of preference and one player who is too low down in the pecking order is England international Daniel Sturridge. The 27-year old is one of the best strikers in the Premier League but has not been able to find a place in the starting XI at Anfield. But here is why he should be one of the first names on the team sheet for Liverpool this season:
A prolific goal-scorer
Having scored 43 goals in 71 games for Liverpool in his career, Sturridge rates better than a goal every two games which is phenomenal for the league in which he plays. He is one of the best strikers not only in England but also in Europe and is a player who can create and take chances even under pressure. He is a natural finisher who knows his way to goal and also has a great understanding of the game. He loves to play off the last defender making intelligent runs into the final third which creates space for his midfielders. His style also fits into Klopp’s requirements and there is no doubt that he should be the first choice at the club in a season where Klopp is hunting for domestic glory.
A fan favorite
The fans of the club are of a divided opinion on more things than one at the moment. The success (or the lack of it from where you look at it) of the summer transfer dealing along with the treatment of certain players has seen the fans in dissent and leaving a fan favorite out of the squad has only added to it. The 27-year old was given just 5 minutes in the game at White Hart Lane at a time when Liverpool needed a goal.
Though Klopp justified putting Origi on by saying that he needed the pace, Sturridge poses a bigger goal threat than the Belgian and such decisions have seen the fans dissatisfied with the manager lately. Sturridge is a Kop favorite and for good reason. He will only become better if given enough game time and every Liverpool fan will hope the Klopp gives him what he needs to be back to his best.
Experience
At 27, Sturridge is by far the most experienced player in Liverpool’s striking options. He has plenty of experience in the Premier League having played for Manchester City and Chelsea before moving to Anfield and those years will come with their own advantage. He knows the ins and outs of most teams in the league and is the best option for Liverpool against any kind of an opposition.
He knows how to break defenses up in the Premier League and add to it his quality in front of goal, he is surely a lethal weapon for Klopp. Firmino, Origi and Ings are relatively new to the top flight of English football leaving Sturridge as the most suitable leader for this exciting Liverpool lineup.
