Everton have flown off the blocks this season and the club are already reaping the reward of getting rid of the ultimate idealist Roberto Martinez. His naïve defensive tactics had been hurting the club and the owners took a long overdue decision and installed the more balanced and pragmatic boss Ronald Koeman who adds a pinch of adventure to his compact squads. Many had realised the importance of the recruitment of the Dutchman and recognized it as a coup and the early results show us why.
The speed which the transformation has been apparent has surprised quite a few. Everton did not go overboard with their transfers and had identified their targets with a clarity of thought so missing in their rival Premier League clubs. West Ham’s botched up summer window comes to mind. But Everton have been smart and have enjoyed the benefits and now sit pretty in the 2nd position just below Manchester City who have operated at a different level altogether.
Everton have been drawn to face Norwich City in the 3rd round of the EFL and the fixture has a distinct Premier League sound to it. But it will be quite a while before we see that transpiring. Ronald Koeman will be extremely pleased his boys and will look to give his immediate 2nd string players a chance to impress in this fixture. Everton are coming off a back of an impressive victory against Middlesbrough and will be looking to continue their momentum as they look to sustain their quest of a Top 6 finish.
HERE IS T40’s PREDICTED EVERTON LINE-UP VS NORWICH CITY (4-2-3-1)
DEFENCE
Joel Robles is expected to come in for Marten Stekelenburg and will be looking to keep a clean sheet. He might experiment with a back three but we are going for a back four of Holgate, Williams, Funes Mori and Bryan Oviedo.
MIDFIELD
The double pivot might see a significant change with Idrissa Gueye and Gareth Barry being afforded rests. Tom Cleverly will likely get a game and there is a possibility for Tom Davies to get a start. Aruna Kone will hope to be selected in the No.10 role and will look to remain relevant in the new era with his performances.
ATTACK
Aaron Lennon will likely start from the left-hand side while Gerard Deulofeu will hope for a start on the right flank after being reduced to bit part appearances since the arrival of Bolasie. Enner Valencia is more than capable of filling up top for Lukaku.
