Lukas Podolski has hit out at Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho over his treatment with Bastian Schweinsteiger. The midfielder hasn’t featured for United this season as Mourinho told the veteran midfielder that he is not in his plans and the former German international has been asked to train with the Youth team.
Podolski said, “What happened to (Schweinsteiger) is unfair. It is not correct to deport Basti to the second team,’ the former Arsenal man said about Schweinsteiger’s current situation. ‘A coach must always keep the doors open to all players.”
United are reportedly trying to get rid of the German but Schweinsteiger rejected it. He has 18 months left on his contract and United have to shell a whopping £13.8m if they want to release the player. Basti who has played 32 games for them has been offered a free transfer to Sporting Lisbon but he made it clear that United would be the last European Club for him. He has won eight Bundesliga titles and a Champions League with Bayern Munich. The 32-year old also won the World Cup with Germany.
Podolski has hinted that he wants to play with Schweinsteiger again and MLS could be their next destination. “I think America is great. Moving abroad is good for personality development and it would also be good for our children. Clearly it would be possible to play with Schweinsteiger in the States.”
