Antonio Conte has warned his players not to repeat the mistakes of the last season as Chelsea lost to Liverpool 2-1 at the Stamford Bridge. Blues manager Antonio Conte tasted his first defeat in the Premier League as Chelsea were upset in a spectacular manner by Liverpool.
Conte said, “When you give away two goals in this way it’s very difficult. Against Liverpool, these are tough games. You must pay attention in every second of the game because details make the difference.”
Chelsea played a 2-2 draw with Swansea just the week before and while many would have thought that Chelsea will walk away with full points, Swansea surprised as they exposed the vulnerability in Chelsea defence.
Conte confessed as much as he had this to say, “We paid a lot. We were losing 2-0 and it was difficult. We scored the goal in the second half and we had the chance to draw but it was late.”
The Chelsea manager is famous for his defensive strategy (being an Italian manager does come with certain stereotypes) and as such expressed his disgust after the game.
“It’s not important if this defeat is my first defeat [as Chelsea head coach]. It’s our first defeat. It’s Chelsea’s defeat and there are the players, the manager, the staff who work at this club. It’s important to understand that every single game is very tough and we mustn’t forget last season. It’s important because last season was a bad season. I don’t want to repeat last season.”
“We must feel the danger in every single moment of the game if we want to win, if we want to think like a great team. Chelsea is a great team but we must show this in every single game – to pay attention, to be focused.”
“It’s not important that it’s my first defeat, it’s our first defeat – a Chelsea defeat.”
The defeat leaves Chelsea in third position while Liverpool is at the fourth place right behind The Blues.
