Antonio Conte couldn’t hide his anger after Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Arsenal on Saturday. The Italian who was appointed by Chelsea this season has warned his players after a very sloppy display.
The first goal conceded by Chelsea was an absolute gift to Arsenal. An error from Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill saw Alexis Sanchez pounce on the loose ball to score the first goal for the home side. Theo Walcott doubled the Gunners lead from a Hector Bellerin cross.
John Terry failed to make the cut for this all important London derby and Conte was forced to deploy David Luiz and Gary Cahill as the two defenders for this match. Conte is known for his defensive tactics but Chelsea have now conceded thirteen goals in eight matches and it seems that the absence of Terry is hurting them.
Conte handed a start to Cesc Fabregas but the midfielder had no impact in the game. He had to be substituted as Conte switched to his favourite formation 3-5-2 in the second half.
“We started this game in a bad way, and from the first minute.”
“This is very strange because Arsenal against Chelsea is a massive game and when we play this type of game against a very good team like Arsenal, you must stay concentrated from the first minute and this today did not happen.”
He further added,”I was a footballer and it happens that in one game you don’t have a good performance for many reasons, but I hope to improve this situation. We’ve had defeat in two big games. For this reason we must be humble and understand the moment and that we need to work a lot to improve and change our story.”
