Ex- Manchester united defender Nemanja Vidic has revealed that he had almost joined Liverpool instead of Manchester United. Vidic, 34, has now retired after a not so good spell with Inter Milan.
Vidic played 211 games for the Red Devils and has 15 goals under his name and he won almost everything during his stint at Old Trafford. Vidic has won five Premier Leagues, Three League Cups, five Community Shields and a Champions League.
On being asked if he was approached by the Merseyside club Vidic answered,”Yes. Rafa Benitez called me and I nearly went there. I was interested in going, but my English wasn’t good and I was struggling to communicate. Then Manchester United came. Fergie called me at my apartment and said: ‘I watched you play for Serbia against France – I want you here’. United were decisive. Everything was done very quickly, within two days”.
The Serbian star was signed from Spartak Moscow for £7m in December 2005. Vidic was involved in several heated conversations with many Liverpool players and also got marching orders on four occasions. It would have been indeed interesting how Vidic’s career would have shaped up if he joined Liverpool instead of United.
