Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is all set to pen a new five-year deal with the Catalans with an option of a two-year extension. The 28-year-old midfielder will reportedly have a release clause of €200m (£171m).
Barcelona have released a statement, “First team player Sergio Busquets will be putting pen to paper to sign his new contract with FC Barcelona on Thursday 22 September at 1.00pm CET in the club offices.” Busquets is reportedly under current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s radar and the former Barcelona manager would not be very happy with this development.
Busquets was a product of the famous La Masia academy and made his debut in 2008. Since then he has been an integral part of Barcelona’s midfield. After signing the new contract he will be the third-highest paid player after Messi and Neymar.
Barcelona stated, “As has already been announced, the midfielder will be prolonging his relations with the club until 30 June 2021, while the deal also includes the option of a further two-year extension through to the 2022/23 season, depending on the number of games that he plays. The buyout clause has been set at 200 million euros.”
