Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hailed the performance of Theo Walcott as a “completely different player”. Arsenal defeated Chelsea 3-0 at the Emirates and Walcott scored the second goal of the match.
The England international scored his third goal of this season and Wenger looked very happy with his performance, “You cannot question his performance.”
“But I believe more the change in Theo Walcott is his attitude to this season. He’s ready to fight, commit and straight away he gets the crowd behind him.”
Last season Walcot seemed to have lost his touch as Wenger preferred him upfront. But this season the gaffer started him as a right winger and the results are bearing fruit for the gunners. “Theo Walcott of that stature is a completely different player.”
Wenger added: “Theo Walcott of that stature is a completely different player.”
Walcott has been under severe criticism for his defensive work but against Chelsea he tracked back well helping the defence. He was quick, creative and could have a few more goals under his name by the time this season ends.
Arsene Wenger completed his 20 years with Arsenal. On being asked how he felt, the veteran of so many years answered diplomatically, “I’m hungrier because I know I don’t have 20 years in front of me.”
“Also I feel more responsibility, you’re not 20 years somewhere and you don’t care about things.”
“I’m more conscious of what Arsenal is all about so I think the weight of keeping people happy and making people happy is heavier than when I arrived.”
