Manchester City have completed the signing of Leroy Sane from Schalke on a 5-year deal with the initial fee believed to be around £37m. The protracted transfer saga for the 20-year finally came to an end today after Sane successfully completed his medical. Sane, who helped Germany reach the semi-finals at Euro 2016, scored eight goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season as Schalke finished fifth.
He was reportedly the top transfer target of new manager Pep Guardiola and City will be pumped having secured the much-coveted signature. Guardiola had words of praise for the player, considered as one of the best upcoming talents in the world right now.
“He is a special talent and an exciting player that I think our supporters will enjoy watching.”
“He has great technical ability, is comfortable on the ball and there is much to admire about the way he plays football,”
“He is fast, enjoys creating chances for others, works hard for the team and scores goals too. He also has a very positive attitude and will fit in well.
“At 20, he is still developing as a player but he is already a member of the German national side and I think he will be a fantastic asset to our club.”
While the player cited Pep as one of the major reasons behind his decision of signing for the Manchester club.
“I think he can make me a more complete player”
“I think I will need a bit of time to start with because it’s another league and there’s a different style of play, but I think I can adapt very quickly.”
City and Schalke have been haggling over a transfer fee for the player and Schalke had recently set a deadline for City to agree on a deal.
Sane has amazing dribbling ability and likes to cut inside and shoot on goal. He has an impressive physique but has to work on his all-round game (which is natural for his age). With intense competition on the flanks it will be interesting to see how the Etihad outfit deal with the situation with Nasri and particularly Navas looking to be the likely guys to face the axe.
Twitteratis expectedly shared their wisdom after the announcement of the deal with Schalke fans wryly commenting that they did not sell to Bayern Munich, taking a sly dig at Borussia Dortmund. While Manchester City fans were overjoyed for obvious reasons.
At least we didn’t sell to Bayern…
