With five points from the first three games in the new Premier League season, one of the favorites for the Premier League title last season have gone off to a decent start to their new campaign. Mauricio Pochettino, the man who has brought in a completely new outlook and approach to the club and is helping them to greater things, will be hoping that he can have the perfect squad to move into the next season and compete on all four fronts. This has seen the Spurs linked with a number of players even with less than a week left for the transfer deadline.
One such player who might be on his way to the White Hart Lane this summer is former Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha. The 23-year Old Ivory Coast international moved to Manchester United coming up the ranks at Crystal Palace for almost three years. However, his time at Old Trafford was far from fruitful as he was loaned back to Crystal Palace immediately where he signed a permanent contract at the start of the previous season ( after a couple of loans spells at the club and also at Cardiff City).
He has come into the light for the Eagles with his sizzling performances in the first half of the previous season and it is no surprise that he has caught the eye of the Pochettino, the poacher, who is on the lookout for youthful ardor.
Zaha, who is known for his dazzling feet was considered a top class talent for the future but his failure at Old Trafford and in the subsequent loan trials made him an ordinary player in the transfer market. However, just one look at his game shows why he is regarded as a special player by many. He is an exceptional dribbler who knows his way around even a couple of defenders and is at times humiliatingly good to watch.
He has the skills and tricks that make him exciting but he has often lacked the sense of responsibility and final product that has seen his club suffer from his performances. However, in the previous season, he was a matured self from a couple of years ago and looked like a player who is ready for the next step, hence the interest from Pochettino.
It is understood that the 23-year old is also keen on a move to a club in the Champions League and is ready to make the switch. However, with all the transfers already done and dusted at the White Hart Lane, Zaha seems to be an option Pochettino wants only to cover for injuries and contingencies.
The winger ticks a lot of boxes in Pochettino’s philosophy to recruitment and is a great addition to his squad but at just 23, Zaha cannot afford to stay on the bench and learn visually. He needs to be on the field, playing day in day out to help himself become a better player. The likes of Eric Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Nacer Chadli are front runners for the wings in attack and will leave Zaha with hardly a chance to prove himself at the club this season. The being said, Spurs are active in 4 competitions this season and a case for extra depth can probably be made.
A move for Zaha might be a great one for the Spurs but the player has to be absolutely sure that it is the best decision for his growth before deciding on his future. Do you think Pochettino needs Zaha this summer?
